Like many people before me – I was a bit disappointed when my 3 year old iPhone 4s developed an annoying problem – the power switch stopped working. A common problem it seems.
There is a workaround whereby you can use the assistive touch options (you can find it under the Accessibility settings) so you can still use the thing but it’s a bit of a faff to lock the phone and it does get in the way a bit.
So, what are the options….
- Buy a new iPhone, so I can ‘fit more apps on it’ as someone genuinely suggested. Nope – other than the power switch it does all I need.
- Buy the parts and tools needed and spend an entertaining afternoon trying to fix it myself?
- Percussive maintenance – tried that.
- Take it to an Apple store for repair.
- Pay someone else to do it who knew what they were doing and support their business.
I made an appointment online at www.lovefone.co.uk and took it to their shop in Tottenham Street (Central London near Goodge Street). Had a cuppa in YumChaa further down the road while I waited and then wandered back. Some 40 minutes later – job done.
Great service and nice people in both establishments. And I’ll use lovefone again if anything else goes wrong. Shame the Apple stores aren’t this helpful or good value.
